Andrew Silk was the Club's Boatman and Head Coach for many years, taking over from his father, Roger Silk. Andy was a superb coach, forming part of the highly successful coaching team that led Cambridge University Women's Boat Club (CUWBC) to nearly a decade of victories against Oxford during the 1990s. Andy's boat maintenance skills were learnt at a boat builder, and refined over many years as a Boatman for several Cambridge colleges.
Andy was widely respected within the Club, and injected a sense of enjoyment into the crews he coached. Sadly, Andy lost his long battle with cancer in March 2005.
Andy Silk is the name of the Club's 2005 single scull, which was formally named by Matt Cannon, and launched alongside the Club's 2006 Janousek coxed fours, Danny Taylor and Gordon Hewlett.
